Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

This is a Cinnamon, Sourdough Rolls recipe by Robin L. of California.

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 2 cups starter
  • 1/2 Cup milk, scalded then cooled down until around 70-80 degrees.
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup sugar, more or less, according to how sweet you want your dough
  • 1 egg
  • 3- 4 Cups flour, more if needed (I use part whole wheat)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 Cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 Cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • butter

Combine starter, milk, vanilla, 1/2 sugar, and egg; then add flour. Knead for about 5 minutes. Let rise until doubled. Knock down, knead in salt, about 5 min. Roll dough out into a rectangle and cover with butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar, and salt mixture. Roll up and cut into whatever size rolls you like. Proof. Bake in a 9 x 13 inch pan at 400 degrees for 25-30 min.

Even though it sounds like a lot of sugar, I like to use all of it because as it is proofing, and while it’s baking, a lot of it escapes into the bottom of the pan and makes a nice caramel sauce.
